Most SMEs we meet bought a CRM when they actually needed an ERP, or an ERP when their real bottleneck was sales follow-up. The confusion is understandable — both store customer data, both have dashboards, and vendors happily sell either as the answer to everything.

A simple rule: if your pain is losing deals in the pipeline, you need a CRM. If your pain is not knowing what stock, cash or orders you have across the business, you need an ERP. If the answer is both, you need them integrated — not one bloated tool trying to do both badly.

Start from the bottleneck, not the brand. List the three most frequent operational mistakes you make in a month. If two of three are about sales follow-up, start with a CRM. If two of three are about inventory, accounting or order accuracy, start with an ERP.

Finally, budget for adoption, not just licensing. The cheapest software is the one your team actually uses. A ₹50,000 system everyone logs into beats a ₹5,00,000 system no one touches.
